Volunteer

Beauty Night Society, an award winning volunteer based organization seeks volunteers to meet and greet clients at the door. Beauty Night clients are marginalized women and youth in Vancouver's Downtown Eastside.

We are looking for volunteers who are able to volunteer for shifts from 6-9pm Mon, Tues, and/or Thursday.

Volunteer Duties include:

  • Making tea
  • Offering cups of tea to clients when they come through the door
  • Greeting clients with a warm smile
  • Encouraging clients to participate in Beauty Night programming (makeovers, personal development, fitness classes and literacy programs)
  • Keeping track of how many clients come through the door
  • Keeping track of how many clients participate in programming
  • Calling shelters, detox, and other services providers for clients
  • Keeping track of how many service provider referrals are made
  • Various other duties
  • Helping close centre at the end of the evening

Ideal Candidates will be:

  • comfortable working with people dealing with addiction, mental illness, homelessness, poverty and illness (HIV/AIDS/HEP C)
  • First Aid Level one or two
  • Friendly, easy going, empathetic, reliable and sincere
  • comfortable setting boundaries
  • believe in Beauty Night

Beauty Night Society is looking for licensed hair dressers, makeup artists, RMTs, aestheticians, body workers, nurses (or students) and social workers (students) to volunteer their time on Monday and/or Wednesday evenings for our makeover program. We are looking for easy going, team player volunteers. Fun, enthusiastic, empathetic, reliable people are the kind of volunteers we are looking for. This is a great way to have fun and make a positive difference in someone's life at the same time.

Beauty Night currently operates with no regular sources of funding.

You can help us by making a cash donation to Beauty Night on-line through our page at CanadaHelps.org.

We also welcome the donation of any of the following products and services:

  • new makeup, including samples
  • lighltly used hair-styling tools and products
  • women's clothing
  • catering
  • multiple copies of popular novels for our literacy program
  • tickets to concerts, theatre and events for our cultural program
