Vancouver programs
In Vancouver, Beauty Night currently offers the following programs:
Beauty Nights
This is our original and most popular program. The Beauty Night makeover program allows clients to be re-introduced to touch in a non-threatening manner, and builds self-esteem, trust and hope. Volunteers offer services such as hair cutting and styling, make-up application and lessons, basic manicures and pedicures, relaxation massage, aromatherapy, reflexology and healing touch. Image consultants help clients pick out donated clothing to take away, and healthy and delicious snacks are served. This program runs 6-8 times a month in Vancouver.
Soup Kitchen
In partnership with DAMS (Drugs, Alcohol, Meetings, Society), Beauty Night volunteers provides clients with healthy, organic meals twice per week in Vancouver at 412 E. Cordova St.
Chick Flick Movie Night
Once per week, Beauty Night clients get the opportunity to enjoy a film together. This program builds camaraderie and lets Beauty Night clients enjoy a fun girls' night in.
Yoga & Stretch Classes
Beauty Night clients are invited to join yoga or candle light stretch classes twice per week to help keep themselves healthy and relaxed. This program is especially beneficial for the many Beauty Night clients who suffer from Hepatitis and HIV.
ChickLit Reading Circle
This literacy program also allows the women to stretch their creative skills by writing monologues and plays. Through scripted improv and journaling the women are developing pieces about homelessness in Vancouver's Downtown Eastside.
Creative Endeavours
Beauty Night volunteers escort the women to a variety of arts and cultural events. These excursions are followed by tea and a discussion about the performance/exhibits. Previous excursions have been to Vancouver Art Gallery, VSO, Vancouver International Dance Festival, Dancing on the Edge Festival, theatre performances, and many more.
